Getting a jump on the gardening season in a colder climate is not easy to do without a greenhouse. However, by selecting and planting the correct crops such as hardy greens, brassica and root crops you can do fairly well. Honey bees are a great addition to anyone’s property. There is a lot to raising bees, but if you are willing to take a look in the hive every couple weeks, read some literature and talk with beekeepers you will be rewarded with the divine nectar. Dino Kale is my Kale of choice. It is a thick dark green leaved plant that grows really well most of the year. Last year I planted two different types of Kale in a row. One half had Red Russian, the other Dino. When the Kale was all leafed out and ready to be fully enjoyed for a meal, I went out to harvest some.
